In September 2013 we hosted a conference called Geriatrics for Juniors (‘G4J’) – a series of lectures and interactive presentations covering the main subspecialty areas of Geriatric Medicine, providing practical and useful clinical updates to FY and CMT doctors, and showing them what a career as a Geriatrician has to offer.

Held at Centre for Life in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and supported by Health Education North East, the British Geriatrics Society, and the Royal College of Physicians (London) we welcomed over 100 delegates from throughout the UK.

The popularity of the event, along with the overwhelmingly positive feedback received, led us to turn the conference into an annual event. Supported by the British Geriatrics Society, the second ‘Geriatrics for Juniors’ took place in Birmingham in November 2014, and was sold-out to an audience of 180 junior doctors. This was followed by further successful conferences in Leeds (2015), Nottingham (2016), Newcastle (2017), London (2018) and Manchester (2019). 2020 marked our first ever virtual event, with over 400 delegates. This has been followed by subsequent successful virtual conferences in 2021 and 2022.

After being approached by teams of Geriatricians around the UK who have been keen to organise their own events, we have also developed G4J Connect – a series of shorter events delivered by local specialists to a regional audience.
